Jehovah's Witness: What equipment should be available during surgery as an alternative to blood transfusion?

If a Jehovah’s Witness patient is scheduled for surgery, a “Cell Saver” (Intra-operative Cell Salvage) might be required, as an alternative to the potential need for blood transfusion.
In this cases, the decision to use a Cell Saver should be discussed with the patient pre-operatively and an informed consent obtained.

Note: Jehovah’s Witnesses avoid blood transfusion because according to their religious beliefs they should abstain from blood (see below).

“You must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh because the life of every sort of flesh is its blood. Anyone eating it will be cut off.” Leviticus 17:14

🇵🇹
