Administer antibiotics BEFORE tourniquet is inflated
Antibiotics should be given to the patient at the same time of giving anaesthetic or on earlier stage if using tourniquet.
WHY?
If the antibiotics are given after the tourniquet is inflated, they will not produce effective blood and tissue concentrations in the surgical site, as the pressure applied by the tournique it will stop the blood flow to the limb.

Os Antibióticos devem ser administrados ao paciente ao mesmo tempo em que ele é anestesiado, ou ainda antes, caso se use torniquete durante a cirurgia.
PORQUÊ?
Se os antibióticos forem administrados depois de o torniquete ser insuflado, eles não irão apresentar concentrações efectivas de antibiótico no local da cirurgia, pois a pressão aplicada pelo torniquete interromperá o fluxo sanguíneo para o membro.
